Pretty Clogs

Happy Monday!

Bright, fun clogs from Maguba.com. Where were these when I was trying to find Dansko alternatives! These are great if you can take a bit of a heel. Great holiday gift. I think I might add the pink pair to my Christmas list.

I don't know about you but I am strategizing how to stay warm this winter and also love what I'm wearing at the same time. I can see myself wearing these with cozy socks this winter when there isn't snow on the ground!

Back Pack filter

Here we go. School has started so it's time to start thinking about school necessities. This year my son has an old lime green LLBean back pack from last year which I'm hoping will last but it's my preschooler who wants/needs her first pack. So I started searchn.

Good news! LLbean no more. There are some goodies out there. Starting below with my favorite!
And I love how these are all normal child-sized packs and not made for a giant's back!

Poketo back-packs! $58.

For the hipster. The Spiketus Rex from Madpax. Love these too. $28-60.

For the engineer. Herschel's, The Settlement orange back-pack. Lasts forever. Not too big. $49.
For the new englanders. The NorthFace. Lots of colors and a perfect price of $29. Love the handle.
And finally...the fashionista pick. A Bakker Made with Love pack called The
Mini Cartable Jouy Rose. $60.

Super Sky. Super Cute.

Love these skirts and pants for girls and boys, by the label Super Sky. These are all homemade in Austin, TX (so many creative things come out of that cool city) using beautiful African fabrics. The colors are so unusual for kids clothing, don't you think? I think they're $40 each and come in sizes 2,4 and 6.  You can email the designer directly to purchase any of these via her blog superskyclothing.blogspot.com.  It's so nice to come across clothing that's unique when we're all so used to seeing the standard brands and designs. I think I just might have to buy one of these for Sophie!

Now that I am back...

So sorry for the long blog vacation!  I took a quick trip to the Cape during school break, everything got caught up, and I left without sending out my last planned post. What was I thinking?!

But it has been a nice week away. And I have lots of ideas bubbling over since I've been gone for so long. I hope you're all still here, checking in!

To start with, I thought I'd share with you a few of my Cape favorites.

Cape Weekends is located in Orleans on the way to Nauset Beach. I only recently discovered this shop, last year. It's huge. I love their collection of items. The owner has great taste and seems to find the trendiest stuff in every category - kids, clothing, home goods, art, jewelry. She carries some Brooklyn designers too which I always seem to favor. Lucky Fish for one. Love Lucky Fish. Here is a very tiny sampling. She has a website with a small online shop too capeweekend.com, but visiting is way better.

Orla Kiely ofcourse

Feisty Elle "Dhalia" felt earrings

Cate and Levi lamb

Zaishu Flower table

Cape Cod artist Wendelin Glatzel

Another favorite is Salon 16 West also in Orleans. Mainly because they carry a great line of skincare products called Welstar, that are all natural, totally organic and essential oil based.  They are a made in very small batches using only pure, raw materials. Visit their website to see the whole product line www.welstar.net. I love how pure these products are and she even carries a sun protection line that's essential oil based.

A few others to mention.

- The semi-new French bakery and restaurant in South Wellfleet called PB Boulangerie. I must admit, I've never been overwhelmed with the restaurants on the Cape, all very predictable, but this place is truly French and very sophisticated.
- Ofcourse the Candy Manor in Chatham..
- The Chatham Bars Inn is a luxury inn but also a great place for cocktails, dinner or a bar style lunch when in the area.
East Wind Silver in Chatham for inexpensive but good quality silver jewelry.
- I love the bookstore, Where The Sidewalk Ends, in Chatham. Not only is this a great title for a bookstore, but this place is very cozy and friendly and they offer up a great selection of interesting books, local and otherwise.
- And then there is my favorite Art Gallery in Provincetown. I'll blog about this tomorrow...it deserves it's own blog post....

I'm off to start watching the Oscars...good night!

Found - Somewhat stylish winter boot

This boot will not end up in Vogue anytime soon, but up here in New England, everyone has a need for a real boot, the serious kind. The walking around in slush, rain, snow, kind. Every winter living in NYC I would wear a simple black leather boot, zip-up, form fitting, it worked perfectly. It got wet but somehow not enough to warrant another kind of boot.  Head 200 miles northeast of NYC, totally different ball game.

So, I looked around, and this is what I found. A boot by North Face called the Nuptse Knee High Boot that you can wear with leggings or tights or skinny jeans, black and form fitting, not ultra stylized but it does fit well and can kind of blend in with any outfit.

I bought them, tried them on with a skirt and they looked great. Perfect. Case closed.
