Where to hang a big piece of art?

In my previous post I referenced a painting from an artist in Pa. It was a big pink abstract painting.  To my surprise, my husband bought it for me for my 40th birthday.  And I really love it.

My house is already filled with art we've picked up here and there and some I've painted myself.  And my house is not big, most walls are filled. So I moved the painting around and realized it looks good on multiple walls. But I wanted the perfect spot so after some experimenting, I chose to hang it over my bed. I'm happy with it and I think it's there to stay.

Some things to consider:

1. Spacing and size - big pieces of art can make small rooms look bigger as long as there is enough space around it to hold it in place.  It should not be too close to a corner or doorway.  A big piece of art in a large room can work too as long as it's not competing with everything else in the room.

2. Which room -  Big art usually makes a statement, so consider which room you want to make a statement in - above a couch, an entryway, above a bed? My piece happens to look the best in my office because I can see it when I walk into the house and it doesn't compete with the other pieces of my living room art.

3. Intuition - There is always a perfect spot and there are always multiple OK spots. For me, I wanted the pink and lightness of my painting in my bedroom because that felt right to me even though I'd see it more often in my office.  I went with my gut instinct.

More pink art...

Following my post a week or so ago, I did a little digging to find some pink poster art.

I didn't find the Forever poster, but I did come across artist Cheryl Wasilow from Allentown, Pa. and her lovely abstract art on Etsy. I love these pieces. Bright colors and good composition.

Bright and cheery.  Love this pink piece!

Pretty Clogs

Happy Monday!

Bright, fun clogs from Maguba.com. Where were these when I was trying to find Dansko alternatives! These are great if you can take a bit of a heel. Great holiday gift. I think I might add the pink pair to my Christmas list.

I don't know about you but I am strategizing how to stay warm this winter and also love what I'm wearing at the same time. I can see myself wearing these with cozy socks this winter when there isn't snow on the ground!

Small space inspiration for the weekend...

Specifically for the books right underneath the ceiling. I also love the poster in the background.....I've seen this in other places and have searched for it. Never found it...if anyone knows!

I can't believe it's November btw. Enjoy one of the last Fall weekend's...cold weather is upon us!

The Starburst Mirror Round-up

Here's the high, low and medium of the ultra cool sunburst mirror. I'm drawn to these lately. I just recommended a starburst to a friend who is re-designing her living room.

I can see these above fireplaces, above entry-way tables and above a high headboard.

The $447.00 Horchow Starburst wins my vote. Very sheek. My favorite.

And then the $19.99 IKEA special -  Figgjo Mirror. Not exactly the same look but might work in the right spot.

The Ballard Design Susanne Kasler Sunburst Mirror $99. I like this one too. Not as glitzy as the first but the price is great.

Thinking about my bedroom...

My bedroom is the most neglected rooms in my house. It's forever on the back burner. I do think about how I want to style it all the time though. I just haven't had a second to make some lists and start the process.

I saw this bedroom photo today and plucked it for inspiration.  I love how undecorated it looks but still feels balanced, calm and pulled together.  This is not an expensive room ..this look could be easily achieved by copying the color scheme in the artwork, buying a few modern side tables/lamp, and white bed linens. The pendant, IKEA, easily. Nothing fancy here, but a serene, happy space for sure.
